First Appointment

Well our first appointment was Monday February 4th, it was worth all the blood drawing and peeing in cups to get to see the baby on the ultrasound. Craig described it as an "out of body experience" it is pretty amazing to see the heart beating. When the Doctor measured the baby she came up with a date of 7w 3d which is behind where Craig and I figured we were. She gave us a due date of September 19th, 2008. Also I am sure many of you are anxious to know how many babies there are.....the ultrasound showed that there is one baby in there! I know many of you are dissapointed that you will not be able to laugh while we try to manage two babies but I am sure that there will be plenty to chuckle about with our singleton. The baby is the gummy bear with the measuring line and on the right is the yolk sac, for our little chicken.

As much good news came with the visit there is also caution. The ultrasound detected that there is a tear in the placenta that has lead to a small pool of blood outside the uterus. It is the black spot to the left of the baby. The Doctor said besides work I pretty much have to have my feet up on the couch. This is not as much fun as it sounds. I want to be able to remain active and stay healthy. Her hope is that the growth of the placenta over the next four weeks will make the tear insignificant. So right now we are cautious yet optimistic on our impending little one!
